Overview

Burnholme College in York is the second custom and self-build project developed by City of York’s in-house development company, Shape York. Custom Build Homes is the appointed Enabler and will manage the delivery of five serviced plots for self-builders, as an allocation of custom and self-build housing on a larger net zero (carbon) housing scheme designed by award winning Architects, Mikhail Riches.

Location
The site is situated on the former Burnholme College site, in Burnholme, York. The suburb is located approximately 5 minutes (by car/bus) from York City centre and benefits from all amenities one would expect from a new homes site within city limits. These include; shops, supermarkets, schools, pubs, restaurants, parks and leisure centres.

Design choices
All plots now benefit from planning permissions to build a new home with extreme flexibility in terms of house design, size and specification. Certain design elements are defined in the planning permissions, and therefore new home designs will need to comply with these as they are developed. A Design Code and Plot Passports will be created to support homebuyers create a new home that meet their own desires, as well as the expectations of the local authority.

All plots will be serviced with access and utilities to their boundaries before plot sales complete. After homebuyers complete their plot sales, they will prepare their house designs and submit them for planning approval with support from Custom Build Homes.
