Lowfield Green is a collection of six south facing serviced plots, each large enough to accommodate a spacious three to five-bedroom home, with a large garden and garage if preferred, in the city of York. Custom Build Homes and City of York Council are delighted to announce that all plots are now under offer.
The first six custom builders at Lowfield Green are being supported by Custom Build Homes Project Support Staff and new homes are expected to be completed by November 2021.
Custom Build Homes created demand of some 100 enquiries in eight weeks for the opportunity to bid on one of the six serviced plots, this led to multiple plot bids for the opportunity to have increased design choice and control of their home. Purchasers range in ages from 30s to those in their 70s, with two of the successful bidders being first time buyers, proving custom building can offer an affordable route to building one’s way onto the housing ladder.
Ms Victoria McMellon, buyer of plot 4, explains why herself and her partner were interested in a custom build home. She stated they “wanted to build somewhere that was environmentally friendly and carbon neutral and wasn’t going to cost a fortune to live in as we get older. [We want to live] in a house that is built to our requirements really, as we have lived in houses that just don’t suit our needs to up to now.”
Custom Build Homes supported City of York Council by assisting each bidder, explaining the sales process, design, legal and planning in more detail and introducing them to the professional assistance available to them through a workshop. This platform gave the purchasers the opportunity to speak to specialists in property and finance and the chance to ask questions on what is possible to create within the design code.
The support does not stop there for the successful bidders, as Custom Build Homes will continue to support each successful bidder by liaising with solicitors, referring professional services and offering expert advice until completion of their homes.
Tim Moon, City of York Council’s Community & Self Build Officer praised Custom Build Homes on their delivery of support. “Custom Build Homes has an unparalleled knowledge of the custom and self-build sector and has supported us to write our first ever design code, legal contracts, answering my constant barrage of questions and even standing out in the pouring rain showing prospective buyers our first ever serviced plots!”
The delivery of support was also well received by successful bidders, some of the responses received:
Mr Dean Field, successful bidder of plot 2, stated the “guidance being offered by Custom Build Homes has already proved very helpful.”Yes [it benefits you to attend a viewing day] because you can see what you are buying… viewing the land and [surrounding area] [we] just fell in love with it. [The viewing day] makes you feel more relaxed and less nervous about [designing and creating our own home], said Ms Trude Cutler, successful bidder of plot 5.
Custom Build Homes will be following the successful bidders throughout their custom build journey, from those who want to build a unique home that will exceed the council’s green agenda for new builds, making the most of the south-facing elevation for solar and light gain to providing an innovative design with high performance unique build methods, the first of its kind in custom build. Keep checking the website and social media channels to follow the successful bidders custom build experience.
